Fate and Uncle Sam intervened for Marion, however, and she was unable to become one of those Racine Belles. Glory and fame seemed lost forever-or so it would seem. Time has passed and new opponents have come to challenge her. At war with illness-cancer, broken bones, and congestive heart failure-she has persevered, sporting her characteristic positive attitude. The European Union is introducing a mandatory, standardized EU label to provide information about consumers’ statutory warranty rights. This will be complemented by a guarantee label where a voluntary manufacturer’s guarantee is offered.

The purpose of this new regulation is to make consumer rights more transparent and to establish consistent information standards across the European Union. Consumers should be able to see at a glance which statutory minimum protections apply, regardless of the country or retailer from which they make a purchase.
