"Biopetrol": A swot analysis of non-fossil fuels for cars within Europe
Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2006 in the subject Business economics - General, grade: 1,8, University of Cooperative Education Mannheim, course: ABWL, language: English, abstract: Fuel and diesel petrol are derived from crude oil, and since this is a limited raw material, unevenly distributed over the world, it will become very important in the future to find alternatives to petrol; one of them are biofuels. The present paper was written in order to find out about the biofuels market in Europe. An overview of different types of biofuels, including Biodiesel, Bioethanol, Synthetic Fuels as well as various others was compiled, describing advantages and disadvantages of each biofuel. Afterwards, Biodiesel is the main focus of the conducted SWOT analysis. This is due to the fact that Biodiesel is the major biofuel consumed within the EU, with a market share of about 80% of all biofuels available. It is found that Biodiesel does have several Strengths, both product Specific and Environmental specific, which could help the product become even more successful. On the other hand, Weaknesses, also product Specific and Environment specific are shown. Also, Opportunities and Threats are told about, with both of the topics divided into Political influences, Environmental factors and Other factors. Opportunities and Threats are influences coming from the outside, and they cannot be directly influenced by the producers of biofuels. Yet, knowing about these factors can be helpful in order to plan for future actions and gain a better understanding of the current situation of the product. Finally, a Conclusion shortly sums up the information gained in course of the study, and afterwards an Outlook for the future of biofuels is given. An Overview of the SWOT analysis shows the researched information in a compressed way in the Appendix.
"FDI in India's Multi Brand Retail Sector": How to Get Ready for the Big Play
Scientific Essay from the year 2011 in the subject Business economics - Trade and Distribution, , language: English, abstract: ABSTRACTWith US President's visit, Planning Commission has given green signal to FDI in multi brand retailing. Only 51 per cent FDI in single-brand retail is permitted in India. Multi brand retailers were only allowed to operate wholesale outlets. The paper will cover how FDI in retail sector can be introduced, benefits of allowing FDI, how to have control over the global players, and how local retailers can survive in spite of the big players. The retail industry in India is of late often being hailed as one of the sunrise sectors in the economy. Emergence of organized retail sector in India has more to do with increasing purchasing power of buyers and modern supply and logistic management techniques. With a contribution of 14% to the national GDP and employing 7% of the total workforce (only agriculture employs more) in the country, the retail industry is definitely one of the pillars of the Indian economy. Keywords: Foreign Direct Investment, organized retail sector, single-brand retail, globalization, foreign retailers, Ministry of Commerce, Industrial policy and promotion, FDI's issues and prospects.*********
"Framing The Deal".

"Made in China 2025". Exploring Economic Impacts for German Original Equipment Manufacturers
Master's Thesis from the year 2024 in the subject Business economics - General, grade: 1,8, University of Applied Sciences Essen, course: Masterarbeit MBA, language: English, abstract: This paper analyses the factors and the potential economic impacts of the "Made in China 2025" (MIC 25) plans on German OEMs in the automotive sector. German automobile enterprises are currently facing with substantial transformations and challenges, precipitated by the rapid advancements in China's automotive sector, notably in electric vehicle production and sales. These developments are undermining Germany's erstwhile hegemony in the automobile, especially for the Chinese market. China has already made significant progress in the domestic market; after more than 40 years as the market leader, Volkswagen was displaced by BYD in February 2023. The Chinese producers are likewise aiming high for their sales numbers on the German market. The primary research objectives of this thesis are to conduct a semi-systematic literature review and analyses on German OEMs primarily for the Chinese market to identify the respective competitive advantages. Specially, this paper examines the development key indicators of the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) market in terms of market share and government regulations. To achieve this goal, this thesis focuses on two research questions, with a particular emphasis on pure electric vehicles (BEVs): 1) What are the economic impacts of MIC 25 for the German OEMs in the automobile industry? 2) What opportunities and challenges arise from MIC 25 for the German automobile industry?
"Working Out Loud".

A comparative study of token offering mechanisms ICOs vs. STOs
Bachelor Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1,7, University of Frankfurt (Main), language: English, abstract: A token offering is a novel mechanism that enables firms to raise funding by issuing tokens to external investors. Tokens are digital assets that are cryptographically secured and based on distributed ledger technology (DLT), whereas blockchain technology is the most prevalent type of DLT. Depending on the type of token issued in a token offering, one can distinguish between initial token offerings (ICOs) and security token offerings (STOs). Utility and currency tokens are issued in ICOs, security tokens are issued in STOs. Both mechanisms differ in their degree of regulation as STOs fall under much stricter securities regulations.Fundraising mechanisms are a prime topic in finance literature as firms require capital to grow, and there is fierce competition for capital. Initial work examining token offerings predominantly provides studies focusing ICOs. However, there is a lack of studies focusing on STOs, with the exception of Lambert et al. (2020). I seek to extend the finance literature by focusing on both ICOs, and STOs. Hence, I provide a comparative analysis of both fundraising mechanisms: ICOs vs. STOs.
A comparison and contrast of German and international financial reporting issues. Accounting for pensions - IAS 19 versus German law
Seminar paper from the year 2004 in the subject Business economics - Accounting and Taxes, grade: 1,7, University of Bayreuth, language: English, abstract: Although accounting for company pension schemes is one of the most controversial topics of discussion in the international accounting trade, many investors do not pay it due attention. In future, even more so than now, annual results will be influenced by latent reserves and obligations, resulting from different ways of accounting for pension benefit schemes. German financial statements and those following either IAS or US-GAAP often differ significantly on this point. The International Accounting Standards and the German Commercial Code are based on different principles. Whereas German regulations are dominated by the imperative of the protection of creditors, IAS lay the focus of accounting on a true and fair view of financial statements in order to provide a suitable basis for investment decisions. These divergent priorities are reflected in the accounting for pensions as well. The two main problems in accounting for pensions are the recognition and the appraisal of pension provisions. Eventually both accounting systems face the same problems and each one has a different way of resolving them. On the other hand, HGB and IAS unanimously agree on the fact that company pension schemes that do not require pension provisions, do not represent an accounting problem. The objective of the treatise on hand is the depiction of the difference between IAS and HGB regarding the recognition and accounting for pension as well as the resulting accounting-effects on the balance-sheet.The paper will first try to give an overview of the term 'pensions' as it is used in German law and in the IAS, and then - in the second part of the bases- explain the underlying problematic nature of accounting for pensions. In the third and fourth part the respective regulations, first according to German law and then IAS, will be particularized. The conclusion will provide an extensive comparison between the two systems as well as a critical appraisal of the differences and possible financial effects.
A Critical Analysis of Crowdfunding as an Alternative Form of Financing for Startups in Europe
Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2016 im Fachbereich BWL - Investition und Finanzierung, Note: 2,0, FOM Essen, Hochschule für Oekonomie & Management gemeinnützige GmbH, Hochschulleitung Essen früher Fachhochschule (FOM Hochschule für Oekonomie & Management), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: The aim of this paper is to evaluate whether crowdfunding is a realistic form of financing for startups in Europe. Therefore, theoretical principals of startup financing, as well as crowdfunding and its different dimensions, have to be scrutinized further. Moreover, a general overview of the European startup and crowdfunding market has to be provided. This paper focuses on commercial startups located in the member states of the European Union. This paper begins with an introduction of the theoretical principles of startup financing. After a brief definition of startups, the occasions for obtaining financing are pointed out in the context of the life cycle model of a venture. In this regard, traditional forms of startup financing and the related issues are analysed. A more detailed look is also taken on the issue of information asymmetry. Chapter 3 deals with crowdfunding as a source of financing. After an overview of the evolution of crowdfunding, this concept is examined in greater detail. Specifically, the definition and basics of crowdfunding, the main actors and the different forms of crowdfunding are presented. Next, this chapter deals with a typical process of establishing and running a crowdfunding campaign. The end of this chapter deals with the determinants of success of a crowdfunding campaign. In Chapter 4, the European startup and crowdfunding markets are evaluated. Besides facts on these markets, this chapter also deals with insights into the European legal framework in the field of crowdfunding. Moreover, relevant platforms in Europe are presented. The chapter ends with a practical example of a crowdfunding campaign in Europe. In Chapter 5, traditional forms of financing are compared to the relevant types of crowdfunding in Europe. After equity-based crowdfunding is compared to BAs and VCs, lending-based crowdfunding is compared to bank financing. The end of the chapter deals with the comparison of reward-based crowdfunding to financial boot-strapping. In the last chapter, the investigative results are summarized and the achievement of the objective is evaluated. The paper concludes with a prospect of the development of crowdfunding in Europe.

A Research Examination of Covered-Uncovered Interest Rate Parity and the Purchase Power Parity (PPP) hypothesis: Applications in MATLAB, RATS and EVIEWS
Seminar paper from the year 2008 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 95.00%, , language: English, abstract: This project examines in the first part the covered and uncovered interest parity between US dollar and Swiss Franc. We present simple summary statistics, unit root tests, deviations from covered interest parity, regression analysis, threshold autoregression and exponential transition autoregression. Then we present the uncovered interest parity and, as in the case of covered interest parity, we apply some tests to examine if it's valid. We apply Johansen cointegration tests between spot and forward rates, but also between forward premia and interest rates differentials and we test if there is a cointegration equation and we estimate the vector error correction model. After this procedure we present the impulse responses. Next we test if there is a threshold cointegration relation between the above variables. Finally in the last section we apply a dynamic OLS (DOLS) estimation with Newey-West HAC standard errors. In the second part the purchasing power parity (PPP) hypothesis is examined with a similar methodology followed, where additionally we present a long span study, unit root tests allowing for structural breaks in data, panel unit root tests as also Markov switching regime autoregressive model is examined in the category of the non linear models

A Study of Sharpe's asymmetric beta model
Seminar paper from the year 2008 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 100%, , course: Money and Capital Market Analysis, language: English, abstract: This paper presents the classic-static beta values and beta values estimated by an asymmetric beta model. In asymmetric model we have the possibility to estimate the upside and downside betas, while in the static model we are not able to work it out. We will estimate the static and asymmetric betas of two stocks in France Exchange stock market, Michelin and Tf1. So the data consists of daily returns of France Exchange stock market index CAC-40 and the above two stocks , during the period June 2nd of 2000 to May 17th of 2004. Actually this paper examines the estimation of betas under bull and bear market conditions. Asymmetries are of substantial economic importance for an investor who has symmetric beliefs, so he must switch his beliefs in an asymmetry one, where this is necessary.
