It was pouring rain and the wind blew the water sideways, the puddles dancing as though they contained invisible little dervishes. It was impossible to see out the taxi window so I kept lowering it and sticking my head out to take in as much as possible before leaving this magical place. There was little time and I had gone through so much to get here.I kept telling myself that it was better than nothing, but was it? I had looked so forward to seeing this land that when stormy seas decided it was impossible, I actually felt like going home. The trip was over for me.My friend and I, with two strangers, found a taxi driver who would show us what he could. He was a kind man who spoke no English. At one point he stopped the car so that we could gaze at a rainbow. The rainbow lied, weather only got worse.It was time to leave if we were to make it back to the ship before it sailed. Through the rain and mist I saw something white… an image of a perfect white horse. It wasn’t just the horse or location that affected me; it was as if he was looking right into my eyes and saying, "Come, I will show you all of Patagonia."I held my camera out the window and pushed the button.

Across Patagonia is a travel narrative written by Lady Florence Dixie, Scottish writer and feminist. She left her aristocratic life and her children behind in England, and set out to travel, accompanied by her two brothers, her husband, and a family friend who served as a guide. Dixie debated going elsewhere, but chose Patagonia because few Europeans had ever set foot there. Dixie paints a picture of the landscape using techniques reminiscent of the Romantic tradition of William Wordsworth and others, using emotion and physical sensation to connect to the natural world. While she describes the land as "uninviting and feared territory," Dixie's actions demonstrate that survival in a wild land requires both strength and agency. During her travels in Patagonia, Dixie is "active, hardy, and resilient", rejecting Victorian gender constructs that depicted women as weak and in need of protection.

This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature.In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards:1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions.2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work.We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. Le désert peut s'avérer fascinant pour certains avec ses diverses formes : étendues rocailleuses, dunes de sable, montagnes arides, le tout dans une palette de couleurs étonnante. Pour d'autres, il peut s'avérer angoissant car pendant des centaines de kilomètres vous le traversez et le seul signe de civilisation est l'autoroute 5 sur laquelle vous roulez et les camions que vous croisez (car les voitures sont assez rares en dehors des espaces habités). Dans tous les cas, c'est une expérience inédite que nous avons vécue pendant quelques semaines. Nous avons ensuite continué notre exploration du pays pendant trois mois, du nord au sud et si ces régions vous intéressent, vous pourrez les découvrir dans nos autres guides.
