"Die Königin des polygraphischen Handwerks". Die historische Lichtdrucktechnik und ihre Perspektiven im digitalen Zeitalter

Dieses direkte und rasterlose Flachdruckverfahren ermöglicht auf fotomechanischem Weg Reproduktionen von mehrfarbigen Halbtonvorlagen in unübertroffener Faksimile-Qualität. Wobei der komplexe Herstellungsprozess von den Druckern ein hohes Maß an Erfahrung verlangt. Angesichts der Möglichkeit, feine Linien und Tonwertverläufe qualitativ der Fotografie ähnlich wiederzugeben und Dank seiner Farbechtheit ist das Lichtdruckverfahren vorwiegend für die Faksimilierung historischer Dokumente wie für die Reproduktion künstlerischer Werke geeignet. Ebenso wird das Lichtdruckverfahren in unterschiedlicher Weise als eigenständige künstlerische Ausdrucksform genutzt.Seit der Lichtdruck zunächst unter dem Namen Albertotypie der Öffentlichkeit 1868 von Joseph Albert vorgestellt wurde, blieb das Prinzip dieses fotomechanischen Reproduktionsverfahrens weitgehend unverändert, entgegen der allgemeinen technologischen Entwicklung in der Druckindustrie. Nach einer raschen weltweiten Verbreitung der Technologie und einer "Blütezeit" um die Jahrhundertwende, wurde der Lichtdruck als ein zu aufwendiges und kostenintensives Verfahren gegen Ende des 20.Jahrhunderts von modernen Verfahren wie dem Offsetdruck industriell verdrängt. Denn alle weltweiten Versuche, den Lichtdruck als Verfahren ohne Qualitätseinbußen für die Massenauflage effizienter zu machen, blieben erfolglos. Trotz der beeinträchtigten Bedingungen wird diese Technologie heute noch in traditioneller und moderner Weise engagiert gepflegt.Aufgezeigt wird zunächst die historische Entwicklung des fotomechanischen Druckverfahrens, um anschließend das Verfahren in seinem technologischen Prozess einschließlich der Variante Lichtdruck-Originalgrafik zu charakterisieren. Neben den wesentlichen historischen Einsatzgebieten des Lichtdruckverfahrens werden auch aktuelle Bestrebungen skizziert, die das traditionelle Verfahren modern belebend einsetzen.

Der Agrarwissenschaftler Ferdinand Wohltmann (1857-1919) war einer der bedeutendsten Hochschullehrer in Pflanzenbau und Agrikultur. Der Erwerb deutscher Kolonien in Afrika lenkte alsbald sein Interesse auf die tropische Landwirtschaft. 1888 bereiste er die westafrikanischen Inseln und Kamerun. 1889 unternahm er im Auftrag des Hamburger Kolonisationsvereins eine Studienreise nach Südbrasilien. 1891 habilitierte sich Wohltmann an der Universität Halle mit der Schrift Ueber die Verbesserung und künstliche Veranlagung der natürlichen Produktionsfaktoren in der tropischen Agrikultur, das erste Kapitel für ein Handbuch, das er vorbereitete. Der erste Band erschien 1892 unter dem Titel Handbuch der tropischen Agrikultur für die deutschen Kolonien in Afrika auf wissenschaftlicher und praktischer Grundlage. 1894 folgte Wohltmann einem Ruf als ordentlicher Professor für Pflanzenbau und Bodenlehre an die Landwirtschaftliche Akademie Bonn-Poppelsdorf. Von hier aus unternahm er in den Jahren 1896 bis 1900 in amtlichem Auftrag Forschungsreisen nach Kamerun, Deutsch-Ostafrika und Togo und 1903 nach Samoa. Die Ergebnisberichte dieser Reisen veröffentlichte er in mehreren Büchern. Seitdem galt Wohltmann in Fachkreisen als der beste Kenner des tropischen Landbaus. Bereits 1897 wurde er in den Vorstand der Deutschen Kolonialgesellschaft berufen. Ab 1897 gab er gemeinsam mit dem Agrikulturbotaniker Otto Warburg die Zeitschrift Der Tropenpflanzer heraus. Wohltmann war der erste Hochschullehrer in Deutschland, der Pflanzenbau global gelehrt hat, also in seinen Vorlesungen auch den tropischen Pflanzenbau in angemessener Weise berücksichtigte. 1968 and Global Cinema addresses a notable gap in film studies. Although scholarship exists on the late 1950s and 1960s New Wave films, research that puts cinemas on 1968 into dialogue with one another across national boundaries is surprisingly lacking. Only in recent years have histories of 1968 begun to consider the interplay among social movements globally. The essays in this volume, edited by Christina Gerhardt and Sara Saljoughi, cover a breadth of cinematic movements that were part of the era's radical politics and independence movements. Focusing on history, aesthetics, and politics, each contribution illuminates conventional understandings of the relationship of cinema to the events of 1968, or "the long Sixties."The volume is organized chronologically, highlighting the shifts and developments in ideology in different geographic contexts. The first section, "The Long Sixties: Cinematic New Waves," examines both the visuals of new cinemas, as well as new readings of the period's politics in various geopolitical iterations.
