"Biosphären-Politik".
"Eurokrise": Stabilisierung des Euro
"Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership" (TTIP).
'Indigenous' versus 'Non-indigenous' People's Rights in Ethiopia. Political Participation of 'Non-Indigenous' People in Bambasi Woreda
Master's Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Politics - Topic: Public International Law and Human Rights, grade: Excelent, Addis Ababa University (College of Law and Governance), course: Human Rights, language: English, abstract: The right to political participation, as stated under the UDHR and ICCPR, is a basic right of human beings that influence the inter-relation and interaction of human beings. Ethiopia, as signatory of these international human right instruments, the FDRE constitution stipulates the right to political participation right of all Nation, Nationalities and People of the country without any discrimination. However, regional states, like Benishangul-Gumuz, had face serious criticism that 'non-indigenous' people are face serious problem in the enjoyment of their right to political participation. This research has aimed to assess the political participation of 'non-indigenous' people of Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State in a case study of Bambasi Woreda. It looks and measures the participation of 'non-indigenous' people in public decision making and assess the 'indigenous' vs. 'non-indigenous' composition of institutions of Bambasi Woreda's administration and normative instruments for the accommodation and consideration of the right to political participation of 'non-indigenous' people. In investigating reliable data, the researcher utilizes the qualitative research approaches unstructured in-depth interview, key informant interview and field observation as data collection instruments, in combination with different documents and articles. As findings of the study reveal, the right to political participation has been shortened by normative and institutional constraints that range from the federal up to the Kebele administration level. Hence, it is highly recommended that there must be a structural change that helps to establish an inclusive normative and administrative institution which ranges from the reconsideration of 'non-indigenous people up to a constitutional amendment and complete re-institutionalization of the administration.
A blanc check for intervention - the evolution of the Monroe Doctrine and its significance in contemporary U.S. foreign policy
Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject Politics - Region: USA, grade: 1,3, Indiana University (Political Science Department), course: American Political Traditions, language: English, abstract: The Monroe Doctrine will be 200 years old in 2023 and the world of today could not be more different than from the conditions of the world in which president James Monroe gave his speech, which would become so famous and significant for the direction of U.S. foreign policy. Yet the policies of the Monroe Doctrine are still very much alive. Especially after president Theodore Roosevelt announced the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine in 1904 America's path of becoming a major player in world affairs with arbitrary power was paved for them. The argument of this paper is that the document known today as the Monroe Doctrine started out as a simple but efficient and bold proclamation, which dealt with the problems of its time and has been transformed into a tool for global involvement. Originally it attempts to keep Europeans out of the New World but it does not attack the already existing colonies in the Western Hemisphere. Over time various presidents altered this original phrasing. One of the more important examples of this tradition is Theodore Roosevelt's Corollary to the doctrine, which will serve as an illustration to outline the main argument. Roosevelt turned the meaning of the doctrine around and went from noninterference to active responsibility by the United States to intervene anywhere in the Western Hemisphere where chaos and violence ruled. Still limited on the Western Hemisphere and whatever was defined to fit into this category Roosevelt's definition of the "international police power" soon became just that. The United States would enter two World Wars on the basic justification that they were restoring order and justice and were only acting out of self-defense reasons. After World War II nothing of what James Monroe had once proclaimed as essential to American progress was left. The defining characteristic of Monroe's old doctrine-the non-interference with European affairs phrase-had been shattered to pieces. The Cold War forced the United States to become even more dedicated to European matters and even after the Cold War the U.S. or a multilateral coalition under U.S. leadership now dealt with new threats to European peace. With the post 9/11 era all dreams about isolation from Europe were forever destroyed. The War on Terrorism is the latest effort of the United States to change the conditions of countries all around the world.
A Comparative Study of New Zealand and Japan's ODA Policy toward the Pacific Region
A Comprehensive Analysis on the EU-Turkey Statement
Seminar paper from the year 2019 in the subject Politics - Topic: European Union, grade: C, University of Bamberg, language: English, abstract: The refugee crisis has become one of the most significant issues of the EU which derived from noticeably rising instability and Syrian Civil War. It is seen that Turkey is a buffer country which protects Europe from the irregular migration and this circumstance had strengthened Turkey's importance. The paper has shown the alteration through Turkey - the EU relations. This process has revitalized the EU-turkey relations since 2015 through the border security and migration management by fastening membership negotiations and the visa liberalization program. The paper has found that a willingness on turning the crisis into an opportunity for both side was the main trigger of the EU- Turkey Statement. Enhancing cooperation between them has a considerable positive impact as specified widely above. This paper set out to determine that "Why is Turkey still compelling the EU-Turkey Statement in spite of that Turkey has to undertake such a heavy burden?" Therefore, it has been examined to examine Turkey's national interest in the framework of "rational institutionalism" by facilitating the cost-benefit calculations. Moreover, the encouragement from Turkish public ensures that the visa conditionality can enables the cooperation and avoids the compromises at the same time. Due to complicated and long-term relations between the EU and Turkey, the support regarding to EU accession had sharply declined. Hence, lighting visa regime which is perceived one of the discriminatory policies of the EU that has extremely risen public opinion support. Some enforcements have been done by Turkey particularly, after the coup attempt in 2016 and following the state of emergency that has been criticized as an undemocratic by the Council. PACE has made a decision succeed about re-open monitoring procedure in respect of Turkey on 25th April 2017 (Rep. of Turkey Ministry of Foreign Affairs 2017). In the following, European parliament general assembly has ratified the recommendation letter in respect of suspending membership negotiations with Turkey (Press Release Regarding the European Parliament's Resolution Regarding 2018 Report on Turkey 2019). Meanwhile, the conjuncture where rising "populism and xenophobia: in the EU member countries even so rising "Eurosceptic discourse" seem that far away the visa-free regime.
A Critical Analysis of Post-Conflict Peace Building in Africa. A Case Study of Somalia after 1990
Master's Thesis from the year 2024 in the subject Politics - Region: Africa, , course: Master of International Relations and Diplomacy, language: English, abstract: This thesis aims to explore the peace building initiatives that Somalia implemented after the 1990 conflict. Protracted conflict and instability have plagued Somalia since the collapse of the central government in 1991. The paper will examine the objectives and strategies of peace building initiatives, identify the primary challenges and problems encountered in the post-conflict period, and analyze the conflict's background. A case book approach will be used to examine specific peace-building efforts in Somalia. The thesis will also review relevant literature on post-conflict peace-building and provide a justification for the importance of this research. This study delves into the primary obstacles and prospects associated with reconstructing a stable and tranquil society in the wake of conflict, utilizing pertinent literature and case studies. Despite the protracted civil war that has persisted for decades, the post-conflict peace building processes in Somalia have been a challenge. The objective of this research is to investigate the numerous factors that have impeded the successful implementation of peace building strategies in Somalia and to propose potential solutions to the issues. Case research examines the effectiveness of various peace building interventions implemented in Somalia. The results of this book will enhance the current body of literature on post-conflict peace building and offer policymakers, practitioners, and researchers within comparable contexts valuable insights. This thesis also seeks to investigate the obstacles and prospects of post-conflict peace building in Somalia, with a particular emphasis on the government, external actors, the United Nations, the African Union, and the Islamic Group in promoting sustainable peace. The United Nations, African Union, and the Islamic Group are essential in the restoration of stability and the establishment of sustainable peace in war-torn regions. One such region facing significant peace building challenges is Somalia. This study investigates the post-conflict peace building process in Somalia, with a particular emphasis on the actors and significant events that are involved in the pursuit of peace.

A Critical Evaluation of Marxist IR Theories
Essay from the year 2014 in the subject Politics - General and Theories of International Politics, grade: 1,2, University of Leicester, language: English, abstract: Marxist International Relations (IR) theory is fundamental to the discipline. Its distinct approaches are neither strictly positivist, nor post-positivist but derive insights from both methodologies. Common elements in the Marxist tradition are imperialism, exploitation, capital accumulation and expansion, as well as hegemony. Materialist approaches, i.e. those which privilege how natural resource endowment, geography, military capability, or technology influence the structure of international relations (Baylis et al. 2008:583) are prevalent.
A Critical Stylistic Study of Modality in Selected Tweets of the Former American President Donald Trump
Academic Paper from the year 2023 in the subject Politics - Region: USA, University of Babylon (Ministry of Education, Iraq), language: English, abstract: This paper is an attempt to explore modality used by the Former U.S. President Donald Trump in his tweets to indicate his political and ideological intentions and goals during (2020), because it is the last year of Trump's Presidency; and it is the year that the American elections held, and within this year Covid-19 swept the world. The critical stylistic analysis aims at uncovering Trump's ideological outlook by identifying the extra layer of meaning in which the ideological evaluation is structured and exposing the way in which the resources of language are strategically deployed to influence and ideologically manipulate Trump's followers' experience of reality. One of Jeffries's (2010) tools which is "hypothesizing" used in analyzing modality in critical stylistics, and she also proposes some constructions that give modal meaning such as (lexical verbs, modal adjectives, modal adverbs and conditional structure), in addition to Simpson's (1993) four categories (deontic, boulomaic, epistemic and perception).
A Fool's Paradise? Ethnicity, Military and Prospects for Democratisation in Myanmar
Bachelor Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Politics - Region: Far East, grade: 68, Durham University (School of Government & International Affairs), course: Politics, language: English, abstract: State and military power have been formally fused in Myanmar since the military coup of 1962. Colonial and pre-colonial experiences prior to this had ensured the creation of a national narrative that emphasised unity and the survival of the regime above all else. This led to the slow infiltration of military rule in the years following independence in 1948 and ultimately to the decades of authoritarian rule and economic mismanagement, exacerbated by economic sanctions. As the rest of the region began its post-colonial transition towards democracy and prosperity, brutal military crackdowns and reprisals following populist uprisings in 1988 and 2007 seemed only to confirm Myanmar's resilience. Following the suppression of the 2007 uprising, it appeared that the hold of the military junta was absolute. The announcement in 2008 by the ruling State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) of wide-ranging reforms as part of the 'roadmap to democracy' thus represented the greatest hope of democratic reform for half a century. Following the enactment of constitutional reforms and trumpeted elections in 2010, the state now represents an ostensibly democratic, constitutional system. Throughout early 2011 the newly formed 'civilian' government released over 700 political prisoners, oversaw a relaxation of media censorship and legalised the right to unionisation in conjunction with a re-emergence of opposition politics. This essay examines how the cross over between the issues of 'ethnicity' in Myanmar and the perceived role of the military among the military establishment as the sole protectors of the unity of the Union of Myanmar act to create political stagnation in the country. By conducting the political process on their terms, the military is ensuring that opposition politics is robbed of the political space with which to address the ethnic nationalities head on. The NLD is now the only group that has the cultural and political capacity to do this. In its continuous failure to do so it may yet plunge Myanmar into a period of political instability once again.
A liberal approach - the only explanation for the Democratic Peace Proposition?
Seminar paper from the year 2004 in the subject Politics - General and Theories of International Politics, grade: 1,2, Free University of Berlin (Otto-Suhr-Institut), course: HS Demokratie und Frieden, language: English, abstract: In the early 80s political scientists discovered that they overlooked something.Earlier there was an agreement that democracies act as war prone in their foreign policy as non-democracies. The US was fighting in Vietnam; Great Britain in the Falklands and France was fighting in India and Africa, only to name three examples. It was generally assumed that domestic politics had no influence on the foreign policy of a state. Michael Doyle initiated a dramatic change in this point of view in 1983.1 He suggested that there was a huge and important differencebetween democracies and non-democracies: democracies do not - or veryseldom - fight each other. Since this time uncountable numbers of essays were published, which tried to find an answer for this correlation called the DPP - the Democratic Peace Proposition. Most of them take a liberal approach, and today the liberal approach for explaining the DPP is the leading one. Although there are a lot of scientists working in this field, there are still questions, which cannot be answered with a liberal approach. In the first part of my thesis I will introduce the main arguments and aspects of the liberal explanation of the DPP and show in a separate part where this approach failed. Based on these findings I will introduce the (neo)-realistic approach as an alternative explanation for the DPP - particularly the explanation that is represented by Erol Henderson. As well as in the first section I will show at the end the problems and contradictions of this theory. In the last part of my thesis I will bring these two approaches together and try to give an answer to question, if today a (neo) realistic approach - faced by a superior number of liberal explanations - can help to explain the DPP or show aspects of the DPP which can not be analysed by a liberal point of view. I will also give a short overview of research fields which consider if perhaps both theories, the liberal and the realistic one, failed in a context of globaliziation.[...]1 Hasenclever, Andreas, 2003, Liberale Ansätze zum "demokratischen Frieden". A Nordic Union? - A review of the Gunnar-Wetterberg-proposal
Scientific Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Politics - General and Theories of International Politics, grade: keine, Uppsala University, language: English, abstract: Aim of this paper is a review of Gunnar Wetterbergs proposal to establish a (Nordic) Union of the countries in the Nordic region. Based from this concept and its origin in the contemporary context of Regionalism, European Integration and Nordism a Narratives Policy Analysis will be provided. Intentions, backgrounds and the time of this draft idea are for this purpose to be set in relation to the topic of Nordic co-operation within and beyond the European Union. Major lines in the public debate on this issue as well as its impacts have to be summarized and as far as possible practical reasons and arguments for and against an institutionalized realization of such a Nordic federation state will be discussed.
A Poggean Approach to Mass Atrocities. Political Will for Humanitarian Intervention and the Responsibility to Protect
Master's Thesis from the year 2014 in the subject Politics - Topic: Public International Law and Human Rights, Deakin University, language: English, abstract: Humanitarian intervention and R2P, have been plagued in practice by a pervasive lack of political will to action. To overcome this situation and supply determinacy for international responses to global manifestations of mass atrocities, a two-stage approach is required.Firstly increasing political will via the development of a new and encompassing moral edict, where humanitarian intervention and R2P are recognised as unavoidable obligations upon the international community. And secondly increasing political will via an achievable reform agenda that lowers political/material barriers, and diminishes the size and scope of future humanitarian challenges. An approach that fundamentally represents the creation of restructured global paradigm, whereby the 'ethics vs. politics' decision-making equation is tilted to the point that future emergent humanitarian emergencies will predicably and consistently meet with timely and decisive intervention. Such an approach is achievable, predominantly through an adaption and expansion of the work of cosmopolitan philosopher Thomas Pogge.

A threat analysis of Iran in 2002 and its relevance today
Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2002 in the subject Politics - Region: Near East, Near Orient, grade: A, , course: Political Science 605 Middle Eastern Security, language: English, abstract: Written in 2002, this threat analysis provides insight and prescriptions that remain relevant today in understanding and improving relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) consists of twenty five countries that compose the Area of Responsibility (AOR) and stretches from the Horn of Africa to Central Asia. Activated by President Ronald Reagan in 1983, it is the successor of the Rapid Deployment Joint Task Force (RDJTF) developed by President Jimmy Carter in 1980. Its purpose was to project power in the Middle East and East Africa. Headed by Command in Chief General Tommy R. Franks and stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida it is one of nine Unified Combatant Commands assigned operational control of US combat forces. CENTCOM's AOR includes the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Affirmative Action Debate: A Case of the United States
Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Politics - Region: USA, grade: Good, Jacobs University Bremen gGmbH, course: Social Movements and Political Participation, language: English, abstract: The United States is characterized by a high level of multiculturalism. However, diversity comes along with discrimination, which has severely damaged the country's social justice and human liberties. To counter discrimination, the government decided to introduce affirmative action in 1961. Since then, affirmative action has been one of the most controversial issues in the country. In this paper, the affirmative action debate will be analyzed with the use of cultural theory. By defining underlying distinctively different perspectives behind the debate, cultural theory seeks to shed more light into the issue. A clumsy solution to the debate will then be formulated. Since a clumsy solution combines rationality of all distinctively different perspectives in the conflict, it is most likely to be accepted by the populace.
